The NFL announced in a statement that Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is in serious condition after passing out on the field during the first quarter of the Bills' game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

Shortly after standing up from a wide receiver tackle in the open field by Bengals player Tee Higgins, Hamlin collapsed on the ground. According to an ESPN broadcast, an ambulance was sent onto the field and CPR was performed on the victim.

"Team, independent medical personnel, and neighbourhood paramedics provided Hamlin with emergency medical care on the scene. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in serious condition, according to a statement from the NFL.

Hamlin's medical emergency has forced the postponement of the game, according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's statement. At 5:58 in the first quarter, the game was over.

Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins quarterback, had a concussion during a Thursday Night Football game in September, and was brought by stretcher to UCMC. That evening, Tagovailoa was allowed to leave the hospital.
